Hi folks,
We have a slow leak around the old stop tap in the lead pipe coming into
the building and need to isolate the pipe further up the run.
I had Bristol Water out this morning tracing the run with a metal detector
and pipe/ stethoscope for water, running the water and just listening where
it went which was low tech cool.
Anyway...
Bristol Water will install a meter (and stopcock) in the pipe outside for
free. We then have 2 years to decide if we want the meter and could get it
removed to go back onto our current 'rates', therefore gaining a free
stopcock.
I can put in this request today and they should be able to do this within a
couple of weeks ( its a day job) meaning the disruptions will be over prior
to reopening in September and we will be leak free. The benefit it also
that the water supply will be almost entirely within copper pipes instead
of about 15m of lead pipe. To do this there will be a new copper pipe run
aloong the top of the skirting behind the bar.
There really isn't another option but I felt I should flag it up in case
anyone has concerns.
The few extra hours of plumbers work within the building is an additional
cost but we're developing a good working relationship with this team and
they are popular with the vols.
Unless I hear otherwise I'll lodge the meter request at the end of the day.
Jo
